Elizabeth is a 500 hour Certified Baptiste teacher and 200 E-RYT. She is the founder of Recovery Yoga, a 501(c)(3) tax exempt non-profit service organization dedicated to healing and personal empowerment through yoga programs in southeastern Connecticut and southwestern Rhode Island. Recovery Yoga’s mission is to establish, develop and maintain yoga programs in residential, rehabilitative and other facilities, primarily for women and teens working to recover from substance, physical or other abuse, or who are at risk or otherwise in need, and including supporting our veterans, military and their families. Recovery Yoga currently offers 15 weekly yoga classes free of charge. Programs Include those for: at-risk teens, mothers and their babies in recovery, women and their children in a domestic violence shelter, women in a residential treatment facility, children in the foster care system, parents of children in a subsidized after-school program, veterans, active military and their families, and incarcerated women. Weekly veterans classes include one at our regional Veterans Center and one at Mystic Yoga Shala.
Elizabeth enjoys sharing her passion for yoga with the community. She also enjoys helping athletes gain greater strength and flexibility through Baptiste Power Vinyasa Yoga. Her love of yoga and her commitment to her true path and to helping others inspires her to be a passionate and caring teacher. As Elizabeth relates, “the moving and dynamic flow and sequencing is fun and accessible to everyone. The breath reminds me that the past is not now, and reminds me of my aliveness. I am so grateful to Baron Baptiste and his family for bringing yoga into my life and the lives of so many others.
Elizabeth has attended workshops with The Anatomy of Yoga man himself Paul Grilley and meditation teacher Sally Kempton, formerly known as Swami Durgananda and the author of the Heart of Meditation. She has studied with the late Mukunda Stiles, author of Structural Yoga Therapy. Elizabeth is a member of the International Association of Yoga Therapists (I.A.Y.T.).
Elizabeth has taught the women in the addiction services unit at York Correctional Facility for over seven years. She also teaches weekly at a therapeutic group home for teen girls.
Elizabeth is a graduate of Spirit Tree Yoga School with Director Cathy Cesario. Elizabeth is trained in Mindful Yoga Therapy for Veterans Coping with Trauma. She has completed Level One Thai Yoga bodywork training with Ed Cardinal. Elizabeth is honored to have trained with Master Yoga Therapist Aadil Palkhivala. She was awarded a Professional Yoga Therapist Certificate from Aadil Palkhivala. Elizabeth is thrilled to be in the Leader Teacher Faculty in Training Program over the next two years with her teacher Baron Baptiste.
