"The atmosphere is so supportive and comforting. Truly is a 'zen' community. Oh and I love the practices too!"
"I’m a relatively new member. Have been doing the CAST class with Kerri. She is a great motivating, knowledgeable, and fun instructor. She manages a full class and overseas everybody’s form, and instructs accordingly. I also have enjoyed the gentle yoga class with Heather as well. It my first time doing any form of yoga, and Heather makes it very enjoyable."
"Zen and Now has truly been a place of peace for me throughout all 3 pregnancies and beyond! The instructors are knowledgeable and kind and Lisa, the owner, is just a light in herself! I get so sad when I can’t get to my hot yoga classes!"
"Pilates gave me my life back! I had the 'Lemony Snicket' of unfortunate medical events last year; 13 surgeries. Doing Pilates for 6 months had me skiing in the Alps and 1 year has me back in all my clothes. Yeah, Pilates!"
"Zen and Now has literally been a lifesaver for me. Great instructors. Different classes. Never want to stop coming. Love you all!"
“I feel like I’m trying to carry all my laundry in my hands and dropping items left and right when I haven’t been to the studio for a while.”
"I love getting up for early morning classes! It feels like when you get up before dark to get ready to go on vacation! I pretend I'm on vacation and start my day off on a positive note!"
"I always leave feeling so at peace!"
~Mary B
"The only studio which truly hears what my soul needs!"
"Great community, great variety of classes, great teachers! I love Zen & Now!"
"Zen & Now is that rare studio that offers Yoga and Pilates. I had taken Yoga classes for 20 years without ever trying Pilates. Through Pilates, I have found an entirely new world of understanding my physical doby, movement and breath. It has enriched my life and transformed my Yoga practice!"

In the event of inclement weather, schedule changes and cancellations will be posted first on our Momence Schedule (our scheduling software). You can see that on the Momence app on your device, or on the Schedule page here on the website.
Fortunately, we are still able to host some of our classes via Zoom even if we aren't able to meet together in the studio!
We use Momence for our scheduling software. You can log in online or on the Momence app. For Apple users, click here and for Android users, click here to download the app.
You can see the schedule, sign up for classes, purchase class packages and cancel reservations for classes on Momence!
Many of our classes are offered in the studio and online via Zoom.
If you'd like to practice from home or while you're away, sign up for the Online option for the class. You will receive an email through Momence about an hour prior to class with the Zoom link. You can also access it on your Momence account on the app.
Some people hook their phone, computer or tablet up to their TV. Others, use their phone and keep it near them to hear and see the instructor and turn their camera off, and others also set up a speaker closer to them so they can hear the instructions and still be on camera for the instructor to see.
Only the instructor can see the Online participants. You do not need to turn your camera on, though it is helpful to the instructor to make sure you can see and hear them.
Students tell us they love the option to practice at home or while they're away on vacation and still want to take their regular classes with their community! It's also a nice option for those who have a longer drive in and have to get to work or want to control their room temperature on their own, or practice outside!
If you don't have props at home, get creative! For yoga classes, you can use books in place of yoga blocks, belts/scarves/ties in place of straps, and couch cushions/pillows/towels/blankets for bolsters.
For fitness classes, it would be great if you have hand weights at home, though you can also get creative there... use soup cans/water bottles/pets/kids!
Yoga is a beautiful practice, as it helps strengthen and tone our bodies, increase flexibility and balance, as well as work on mind-body balance and awareness.
Yoga is non-judgmental and non-competitive. We should not compare or compete with anyone, including ourselves, during class. Yoga is for EVERYONE! Just coming to the mat is practicing yoga. Let your breath guide you, remember to breathe and have some fun! The physical benefits are just a bonus!
Download the Yoga Etiquette document here.
New to yoga? What do I need to know? Before class: Eating and drinking: Avoid eating for 2 – 4 hours prior to class. Be sure to hydrate before, during and after class. What to wear? Wear comfortable, stretchy clothes that are not too loose.
What do I need to bring? A yoga mat (if you have one - we do have some to borrow at the studio), towel, and water. We have lots of props at the studio you are welcome to use.
Avoid: Wearing strong scents such as perfumes, deodorants, essential oils, or cologne. Please arrive early: If it is your first time, please arrive 10 - 15 minutes early.
Once you arrive: Footwear: Take off your shoes and socks before you walk into the yoga room. Communicate: Tell the instructor if you have any injuries or limitations, they can help you make modifications that will work better for you.
Electronic devices: Please turn your cell phone off, or, better yet, do not take it into the practice space with you. Enter the room: Try to keep noise to a minimum when setting up your mat and collecting your props (i.e. block, blanket, strap), and be sensitive to whether conversations with others may disturb those around you.
During class: Listen to YOUR body and make modifications that are appropriate for you. Ask questions: Let your teacher know if you are confused, are having trouble with something, or are experiencing any pain. Your teacher is here to serve you but cannot help if s/he does not know there’s an issue.
If you are late: Being on time is, of course, optimal, however if you arrive more than ten minutes after class has started, then it’s best to come back for another class; the first ten minutes provide centering and warming up, and joining in a class without having had this can risk injury and can also be distracting for fellow students.
We also lock the studio doors during class for safety once class starts. If you’ve arrived within the first ten minutes of class, then, if it’s OK with the teacher, please enter the studio and gather your props quietly, and choose a space for your mat that is close to the entrance so as not to distract other students. If possible, join the sequence as your teacher cues it. If there are some warm-up postures you need before you can join in the sequence, then quietly take these and join the sequence as soon as you can.
THE BEST PART OF CLASS! Savasana, or Final Relaxation is the last pose we do in class, and consists of lying down on our mats with our bodies relaxed and our eyes closed so that we may absorb the benefits of our yoga practice. This is a very important part of yoga class, so please give yourself a full Savasana! Your teacher will let you know when it’s time to come out of the pose, relax, let go and enjoy. If you give yourself a few minutes of relaxation, you will have so much more to give those around you.
Leaving class early: Please plan to stay for the entire class. If this is not possible, then please let your teacher know before class starts, and take a short Savasana before you depart. When you leave, be mindful of your fellow students by being quiet as you collect your items, return your props, and depart the room. You can clean your mat and get ready to leave in the lobby, if the class is still in progress.
After class: Clean your immediate area: If you borrowed a mat from the studio, spray and wipe it down and return it. If there is moisture on the floor around your mat—either from your perspiration or your water bottle—wipe it up with your towel. If you used props, please put them back neatly.
Communicate: Speak with your teacher after class if you have any questions or concerns about your yoga practice. Make sure you take your own belongings. Hold any loud conversations away from the studio.
~Namaste! (We use this phrase, Namasté, to end class. Simply translated, it means, “the light in me goes to the light in you”)
Group cycling is a super fun way to move your body, get your blood pumping and cross-train for lots of other activities! The bikes can be adjusted to fit you to make your ride more comfortable.
The first ride is always the hardest! Just showing up is awesome! The instructor will prompt you to add on tension and take tension off to simulate riding on a flat road or going up a hill. You are in control of how much tension you add and take away. Don't sell yourself short! You are stronger than you think! Cycling is a great way to move your body in a low impact, yet with high intensity! It is a combination of cardio and strength training and a form of HIIT (high intensity interval training).
Our bikes can accomodate sneakers or bike shoes with SPD clips. Please wear clean shoes (dirt and sand from outdoor shoes can damage the bikes). Please plan to arrive 5 - 10 minutes before class and let the instructor know you are new to cycling, so they can help you set up your bike and go over some basics.
Each ride gets better and better. Like learning anything new, it takes a few classes to get the hang of it! Come play! You can do it!!
TRX is a really fun, total body workout! If you're new, please arrive early for class and let the instructor know you're new so they can give you extra instructions. TRX is a fast paced class and we want you to feel successful!
You can also arrange to come in for a short tutorial and learn how to adjust the straps and learn a few basic moves on the TRX before coming to a full class.
Contact Lisa at lisa@zenandnowct.com to schedule that. TRX is only offered in-person at the studio.
If you have a yoga mat, please bring it. We do have some available to borrow. Also, have a small towel and water bottle.
For in-person classes, we have everything else you need for class. We have yoga blocks, straps, bolsters and blankets for yoga classes.
For the fitness classes, we have hand weights, resistance bands, exercise balls, and more!
If you are practicing from home via Zoom, use whatever you have available. Get creative!
Wear clothing that is comfortable and easy to move in.
For cycle, you can wear sneakers or cycle shoes with SPD clips.
For fitness classes, please wear clean sneakers that you don't wear outdoors. The sand and dirt damage our floors.
You can leave your street shoes in the cubbies in the lobby.
Yoga and Pilates classes are done barefoot. You are welcome to wear grippy socks, if you'd like. You may slip around on your mat in regular socks.
No refunds. Exchanges for class credit only. Please note expiration dates when buying your package. Extensions and membership holds are only available with a doctor’s note on a case-by-case basis.
NOTE: The system automatically deducts a credit from your class pass if cancellations are not made within 2 hours for all classes. Please un-register on the Momence app if you are not able to make it to a class you’ve registered for. If you have trouble doing so, please contact the studio by email (zenandnowinfo@gmail.com) or SMS/text: 213-632-5796.
Cancellation policy for workshops and trainings: No refunds. Unless otherwise stated, for reservations cancelled more than 24 hours in advance, studio credit will be applied to your account to be applied toward future purchases or another workshop/training. No credit for cancellations within 24 hours. Thank you for your understanding!
We are not your typical "gym". We are open for scheduled classes and private sessions 7 days a week with early morning, mid-morning, afternoon and evening classes to fit your busy schedule.
The studio doors open 15-30 minutes prior to a scheduled class. We do lock the doors while a class is in session for safety reasons, so please arrive early.
We host workshops, Sound Baths, Meditations and teacher trainings, as well as Trapeze Yoga, Private Parties, Personal Training, Wellness Coaching, Reiki and more!
In warmer months, we also offer outdoor classes, including yoga, paddleboard yoga and fitness classes.
To see our entire schedule, download the Momence app or look at the schedule and events pages on our website.
